SJ’s Traveling Tueke
VISITING VIENNA
WINTER 2019
Kia ora! Hello!
Vienna was great fun for several reasons:
Christmas Day
We decided to treat ourselves to 5-star hotel rooms for the couple nights we were here, have a break from cheap hostel accommodation
Our best friend who had relocated to the UK earlier in the year surprised us for the last week of our Europe trip!
Had found a pub we enjoyed, so went back to both nights and played cards for hours, and I mean HOURS!
In regards to what we saw…..I really couldn’t tell you haha. My friend I was traveling with had a list of things she was on a mission to see, and us other two were busy catching up and dragging our feet behind us complaining we were hungry yet didn’t want FOMO on the sites we would miss. I know based on my pictures we went to a few landmarks:
Main Square
St. Stephen’s Cathedral
Hofburg
Heldenplatz
Hundertwasser House
One of the great things about Christmas Markets in Europe is you pay $10 euro to get a porcelain mug and filled with mulled wine, you can then pay for a top up at any other stall within the market and then if you return the mug you get some euro back, alternatively you can keep the mug. I kept my stocking shaped mug from Vienna, safe to say it is really inconvenient to actually drink out of so was never used again. The novelty is cool, but the mulled wine is amazing,
What I have gathered after trying to reminisce on this part of the trip is that I really should go back to take some time to take it all in properly.
From here we then went to Budapest, Hungary for the last leg of our trip before the long journey back to Aotearoa.
Haere rā! Goodbye!
