SJ’s Traveling Tueke

Heading to Amsterdam eh?

Kia ora! Hello!

So you have a trip to The Netherlands planned or are day dreaming about heading there? We were lucky enough to use Amsterdam as our base four our Europe Winter 2024/25 trip as family live there, which meant spending nearly three weeks on/off in Amsterdam. I’ve curated this list to save you time on your trip, good luck and enjoy.

Some of my recommendations:

  1. Anne Frank House - After studying her book in school this was an absolute must! You can only buy tickets online, and they are released 6weeks prior so you need to ensure you plan ahead for this one.

  2. Zaanse Schans - A collection of windmills and houses from the 1500’s have been relocated along the Zaan River creating an outdoor museum village that hosts the first Albert Heijn (supermarket - super tiny!), live demonstrations on how to make clogs and cheese along with souveiner shops and a cafe filled with Dutch yumminess.

  3. A canal boat ride - Once you leave the Central train station you will come across several companies that offer this. Did you really go to Amsterdam if you didn’t do this?!

  4. Walking Central City Amsterdam - Kalverstraat (shopping street), Red Light District, The Dam and just walking along the canals is a sight to take in.

  5. Museumplein - This area hosts several well known museums that are all across a big park from each other. This made for a good afternoon of watching a game of chess, eating from the food trucks and visited the Moco museum which included an exhibit of Banksy’s.

    Haere rā! Goodbye!
