MID-WINTER

CHRISTMAS IN

GREYTOWN

Kia ora! Hello!

A 55-minute drive north of Wellington is a small wee town called Greytown. Throughout the month the town is hosting ‘Festival of Christmas - Let it Snow 2023’ with free admission from 6-8pm on both Friday’s & Saturday's.

First, there was a pit stop at the top of the Remutaka Hill as there was a beautiful sunset just as we were driving over. The view from here at any time of the day is amazing to be fair though.

Started the night by grabbing a bag of hot donuts to share as we walked down one side of the Main Street checking out the open stores filled with decorations. Down.a drive way you are greeted by a courtyard filled with people who are sitting, eating & drinking from one of the several food trucks that are parked up for the eve.We enjoyed a mulled wine whilst we took in the bustling atmosphere that was lit with festoon lighting up above.

We continued to wonder up the street where two buildings faced each other from opposite sides of the road, lit up with a Christmas light display. Making our way back down we had made it with perfect timing to be greeted by snowmen showering the crowd with snow from their snow guns on the balcony of the Town Hall.

Throughout the night we had tremendous timing as we then were met by an all female brass band who were just starting their performance at the White Swan playing some old school singalongs.

There was a lack of stalls selling goods compared to last year which was slightly disappointing, however equally good because I really should be saving my pennies for our upcoming trip!

After a quick trip to the Lolly Store, we then jumped in the car and made our way home. Overall, highly recommend as a good excuse to do a short trip out of the city. Recommend getting in quick for dinner as the food trucks started selling out of options by 7pm, and if you have kids you might be best to be prepared for a big line for the candy floss on a light up stick!

Stay tuned for more short trips around Aotearoa!

Haere rā! Goodbye & happy traveling!
