NEW YEARS IN
BUDAPEST
Day 65-66
Kia ora! Hello!
This wasn't even on our initial radar, however here we were booking a last minute flight for a couple days - can't even remember how we made this decision but nonetheless I'm excited!
I was last here in 2019, whilst revisiting spots isn't my ideal (prefer to check out new spots), Linda hadn't been and I adore some of the buildings & history so it was fun taking her around but then making some new memories also.
We started New Year's eve nice and early with a 8am private bath at Lukács Baths that included a bottle of champagne, coz why not?
Then afterwards we made the most of our time here and took a tram over to the Liberty Bridge, from here we walked through Buda exploring:
*Gellért Hill
*Buda Castle
*Nelson Mandela Park
*Buda Castle
*Castle Hill
*Fisherman's Bastion
*Matthias Church
Then we caught a bus over to Pest, thankfully the flooding from the past two days of the Danube River had gone down, and checked out:
*Shoes on the Danube
*Hungarian Government Building - Országház. It's my absolute favourite!
*St.Stephen's Basilica and the Christmas Markets surrounding it, including introducing Linda to Lángos.
*Street Food Karavan - highly recommend, some yummy options.
Then given it was New Year's Eve and we had an early start to the day, a 2hr nap was required before we went out to watch the fireworks and stumble across a karaoke bar where we spent the remainder of the night.
New Year's Eve was our last day in Budapest with a late night train so we kept it chill but tried to squeeze in a few things on Pest side:
*Walked further around Jewish Quarters
*Dohány Street Synagogue, including the Museum & Exhibition.
*City Park
*Vajdahunyad Castle and surrounding Christmas Markets
*Heroes' Square
Then off we go again for a 12hr night train to Switzerland, see ya later!
Happy New Year to you all, wishing you a
ll the best for the year ahead.
Haere rā! Goodbye!
