COPENHAGEN

Day 46-47

Kia ora! Hello!

Copenhagen is a great city for the fact that there is something to see or do everywhere and it's such a walkable city with amazing public transport. It puts Wellington to shame, dare I say it.

Copenhagen Hostel has double bed pods available which seem like a great idea, can share a pod with your friend or partner and due to having sliding doors you get some privacy. However if you think about the logistics.... it's now twice the body heat stuck inside this cube, so it was extremely warm and uncomfy to sleep. Would I do it again? If the door was a curtain instead, absolutely great idea but in this instance no.

It is been within the -2° to 2° range, which has been a nice change - removed a layer of clothing. To top it off, we are now out of the snow/slushy/ice so it feels amazing to be able to actually walk properly again, iykyk.

Day 1:

We did a free 90min walking tour through our hostel where we saw some key sites, bonus was our guide was full of knowledge and absolute solid banter. Afterwards we squeezed in a couple more sites that weren't covered in the tour before it got dark, checked out some Christmas markets and then decided to call it a day.

Day 2:

Due to a suspicious package being delivered to dear Queenie we didn't get to see the change of guard on the tour, so off we went to watch this before heading to a cafe to try some Danish pastries. The remainder of our afternoon was spent at Tivoli which was both exciting and terrifying! Ended the day with a 7/11 pizza slice for dinner coz a) it's yummy! b) it's so expenny here and c) it's becoming a bit of a running tradition on this trip to eat meals from here, in my case mostly pizza.

Sites visited:

*Nyhavn - The canal with coloured buildings

*Amalienborg/Queen's Residence - Changing of the guard happens 4 times, this is key! hang around after the first one as the crowd shrinks incredibly and you can see more.

*Kongens Kytorv/The King's New Square - Christmas Markets in the middle and surrounded by old buildings

*Det Kongelige Teater/Royal Theatre - one of the buildings surrounding the square.

*Christiansborg Slot/Palace - there are Christmas Markets across the road, but the guards march through here all the way through the square and to the Queen's Residence before changing of the guard.

*Round Tower - 40kroner and you can walk, you guessed it, round and round till you get to the top and overlook Copenhagen.

*Rosenborg Castle - has a massive park alongside it, enjoyed a cheeky beverage and said cheers to the Queen.

*Strøget - walking street filled with a wide range of shops, some Christmas Markets off the side and plenty of food options.

*Tivoli/Tivoli Gardens - the oldest operating amusement park in the world, opened in1843. Filled with plenty of restaurants, carnival games, rides and Christmas Markets.

*Apotek 57 - tiktok led us to this cafe as it is highly recommended to try some Danish pastries whilst in Denmark, and it was worth it!

Check out my 'Out Of Office' series in my gallery - I'm selecting one picture from the day and posting it in this series as a bit of a holiday recap. Some days it is really difficult to pick just one but I'm up for the challenge.

Off to board now for Ireland, catch ya later alligator.

Haere rā! Goodbye!
