OSLO FOR THE

WEEKEND

Day 43-45

Kia ora! Hello!

This was a quick trip, in on Friday night and out again Monday but we made the most of it.

To start with it was a delight to be in some slightly warmer temperatures - we are talking 15° warmer, but still 0 and below at times.

Transportation here is amazing once you figure it out, and when you do it is so easy and efficient to get around. Note to anyone heading here - you need to get a pass from selected shops (Naversen or 7/11) as you can't buy them from the driver, and you can use it on boat, tram, train or bus.

Highlights from this trip were:

*Norsk Folkemuseum - Christmas markets, museum around Christmas and Norweigan history, what appears to be an old village preserved which was really interesting

*Yule Winterland - Christmas markets

*Palace Park & Changing of the Guard

*Opera House - it is designed so you can walk up on to the roof and view Oslo from above

*Munch Museum - struggled on the first exhibition, but once we hit level 4 and above I thoroughly enjoyed Munch's art & even fell in love with 'The Sun'. The famous artwork 'Scream' is here, all 3 variations have to be rotated every 30mins to keep them preserved.

Oslo also introduced me to the McDonalds Taco Beef Burger.....and oh my gosh! Game changer.

From here we start introducing the use of our Eurail passes, and honestly it's not as straightforward as it should be but I just got the ok from the ticket lady which is lucky as we are now already 45mins into the 4hr train ride.

I have seen now how Norway is one of the 10 most expensive countries to live in in the world. I'm highly disgusted with us for paying $22 NZD on 2x coffees this morning, but it had to be done - lucky enough, the oat rocky road coffee with soy cream was pretty darn good!

In 8hrs I shall be in my 6th new country this trip, Denmark here we come. I shall leave you with that whilst I enjoy some beautiful snowy views along this train ride.

Haere rā! Goodbye!
