SJ’s Traveling Tueke
BUDAPEST IS
BEAUTIFUL!
WINTER 2019
Kia ora! Hello!
By the time we hit Budapest on our Winter Christmas trip, we had been traveling at a relatively fast pace for 6weeks. So it is safe to say we were a bit tired at this point!
Budapest is broken into two - Buda is the hills & Pest is mostly flat with them being connected by the well known Chain Bridge, and divided by the Danube River.
Firstly, we thought we had ourselves.a deal at a hostel were we paid something dirt cheap for 5 nights. We lasted one. The next morning we found an airbnb and relocated for the remainder of the trip. Thin mattress, blocked showers, really inconsiderate roommates (even more inconsiderate than your worst backpacker) and just a ‘meh’ vibe overall - was worth the relocating.
Brunch - why is this not a thing that seems to exist in Europe? I was so excited to see a sign for bacon and eggs on toast!
We had done a bit of a walk around and seen some well known sites the arvo that we arrived, but decided the best way for us to get around and see everything whilst conserving what energy we had was to purchase.a Hop On Hop Off Bus ticket for less than $40 NZD and jump on the big red bus. This was the best idea! Not only did we do.a full tour of the city, but we got off and did a wonder, then hop back on further down and if you plugged your headphones in then you got to hear some history about Budapest and the sites.
My favourite sites: St. Stephen's Basilica, Heroes' Square, Parliament, The Shoes on the Danube, Gellért Hill, Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion and Castle Hill.
Must try food: A donut cone filled with ice cream and toppings (lots of places sell them) and Lángos - deep fried bread with sour cream and cheese on top.
Haere rā! Goodbye!
