TRAVELING SOLO
Kia ora! Hello!
Feeling a little lost? Haven’t found your ‘thing’ yet? Wanting to ‘find’ yourself?
Traveling solo provides a whirlwind of emotions, but it is an exhilarating experience that offers a wealth of unique benefits. One of the greatest joys of traveling alone is the opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth. Being solely responsible for decision-making allows for spontaneity and flexibility that may not be possible when traveling with others. Traveling solo encourages independence and self-reliance, empowering one to step outside their comfort zone and embrace new experiences. If you are like me and like to ‘go with the flow’ so struggle to be decisive at times, there is a sense of freedom and empowerment after a successful day of site seeing on your own.
Moreover, solo travel provides the chance to meet diverse people from all walks of life which can lead to creating lifelong memories. Without the constraints of a group, one can truly delve into their passions and embrace the beauty of solitude. There is a lot of ‘downtime’ when traveling, and even more so when on your own, giving you plenty of time for deep inner reflection and truely discovering who you are.
Some of my journal prompts over the years that helped me - What makes you tick? What is important to you? What do you want to get out of your life? No country is perfect, but being able to think about some of the things you take for granted? What do you enjoy about traveling?
I have done a lot of courses through work for self-development, but traveling is the one that has provided me with the most growth. Traveling on my own has then pushed me even further and allowed me to ‘find myself’, become more open minded and understand others from different walks of life.
Even if you do it just once, you won’t regret it. Start off with just a weekend away on your own if need be, I dare you.
Haere rā! Goodbye & happy traveling!
